We’re not giving up

Pamela, the Supreme Court just disappointed us yet again. This time, they removed another barrier to Trump’s attempt to limit vote by mail via executive order. The decision, which came unsigned after no hearings, marched us closer to a final ruling on the fate of vote by mail for the midterms. [1] Let’s be clear: today’s decision was purely procedural and doesn’t explicitly give a green light to Trump’s order – which is still blocked by other rulings for now. But it’s still bad news, leaving millions of mail voters without a clear answer just weeks before the election. And even worse – it signals that we can't rely on the Court to hold Trump’s all-out assault on vote by mail just weeks before Election Day. Millions of everyday Americans could be silenced in November’s midterms because of this decision. Senior citizens, service members, busy parents, rural voters, and voters with disabilities are at risk of being excluded from our democratic process and stripped of their right to vote. I’ll be honest, Pamela: this is outrageous. In any other court, this case should have been a slam dunk for the pro-voter side. Our Constitution clearly states that elections are administered by the states and decided by We The People. In March, we sued along with the NAACP and Black Voters Matter to block Trump's executive order to unconstitutionally seize control of this year's midterm – an order he only pushed because the U.S. Senate rejected his anti-voter election legislation. Pamela, we’re not giving up. We’re demanding that Congress end their silence and pass new voting rights legislation immediately. And while we explore our legal options, our Election Protection volunteers are in the field right now offering nonpartisan guidance and support to voters. Because if the Court won’t defend our rights – and our elected lawmakers don't either – then it's up to people like you and me who are ready to do what it takes and ensure power remains with We The People. Pamela, this work is essential. I refuse to be the last generation of Americans to live in a democracy – but that’s going to take all of us working together to ensure we leave something better for the next generation.
