Congress: Refuse to validate Trump’s lies by boycotting the State of the Union

Now is the time for congress to demonstrate their unified dissent to Trump's authoritarian agenda.

Dear MoveOn member, The State of the Union address is happening next week on February 24, and we already know what we can expect from Trump: lies, deceit, and misinformation. We're calling on every Democratic member of Congress to take a stand and refuse to validate Trump's false, hateful rhetoric by boycotting the State of the Union. Donald Trump and his entire administration have spent the last year shredding our Constitution and dismantling our democracy. Members of Congress must show a clear sign, both to their constituents and to Trump, that they will not legitimize Trump's authoritarian agenda or normalize the lies he tells to the American people. Send a letter to your members of Congress and demand they boycott the State of the Union and refuse to validate Trump's lies! Over the last year, we've seen a daily barrage of lies and misinformation from Trump and his administration—calling the affordability crisis a "hoax,"1 lying about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, telling us to "move on" from the Epstein files,2 spreading misinformation around vaccines and claiming that Tylenol is linked to autism,3 calling Renee Good and Alex Pretti "domestic terrorists" despite video evidence of ICE killing them without any cause.4 The list goes on and on. All while Trump continues to completely ignore the real problems facing our country. He's actively taken away resources from the working-class people who can no longer afford basic necessities like housing, health care, and groceries—choosing instead to enrich himself5 and his billionaire buddies.6 Lawmakers cannot continue with business as usual while the president of the United States continues to blatantly lie to the American people. Send your letter and demand a boycott now! When history looks back at Trump's authoritarian address to Congress, the record should reflect a half-empty room. While individual members of Congress have refused to attend the State of the Union in the past, there has never been a collective boycott.
