Pamela,
The Florida SAVE Act is being heard on the House floor tomorrow and could be heard in the Senate as early as Thursday. We need to stop it before thousands of U.S. Citizens are kicked off Florida's voting rolls. Take action now >>
Here's what these bills (HB 991 & SB 1334) will do: if you are a U.S. citizen registered to vote in Florida and you don't have a Florida driver's license or a state ID, there won't be evidence of citizenship on file for you. So, you will get a notice in the mail. If you don't respond to that notice within 30 days, you will be kicked off the voting rolls - even if you've been voting for years.
You won't be able to vote until you submit a birth certificate or a passport. If you can't afford those documents or it's impossible to get them, too bad, you don't get to vote.
We can't let these bills become law. Please, take a moment today to call your Florida House Rep and your Florida Senator and tell them to vote NO on HB 991 and SB 1334.
We need to demand a government that is of, for and by the people. Not just for people who can afford specific documents. All U.S. Citizens have a right to make their voices heard in our elections. We need to tell the legislature: let Floridians vote!
Thank you for all you do,
Amy Keith, Executive Director
And the team at Common Cause Florida
