This morning we woke up to a more dangerous world, Pamela:
Overnight, Trump upended crucial diplomatic negotiations to join Israeli PM Netanyahu in strikes that could ignite a major, open-ended war with Iran. Mere hours before this reckless attack, a key mediator in the U.S.-Iran nuclear talks told Face the Nation he was confident "a peace deal is within our reach."
Win Without War condemns Trump's strikes, and our hearts go out to people in Iran and across the region impacted by this needless, destructive escalation. While Trump has tried to portray himself as an ally to brave protesters facing grave violence, the Iranian government's horrific record does not justify this reckless push to war.
We know from decades of tragic U.S.-led interventions in Libya, Afghanistan, and beyond, that bombs do not build toward peace and freedom people struggling under brutal regimes so desperately deserve.
Already the violence, which Trump has acknowledged may cost 'the lives of courageous American heroes,' has killed students and teachers, parents and children in Iran. If left unchecked, the scale of suffering and humanitarian crisis that could result from this war of choice will be staggering.
It's a fate we can — and will — work to avoid.
Many of you reading this email marched against the war in Iraq decades ago. We did so because we were outraged and opposed to the notion that our government would ignore all international law, abandon diplomacy, and choose to use overwhelming military force with devastating results.
Together, we continue to reject a status quo that feeds, grows off, and promises more devastating violence — and use our commitment to one another as the foundation to build the more peaceful world we want and deserve.
Remembering that we're part of a community of hundreds of thousands strong is a huge source of hope and strength. The road ahead is long, but none of us walks alone.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
