🌙 Ramadan Mubarak, Friends, We hope you’ll join us in wishing a blessed Ramadan to all who observe this holy month. More than 2 billion people worldwide observe this sacred month — a time for deep reflection, spiritual growth and generosity. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset. This act of fasting is considered both a private act of worship and a form of spiritual discipline. Ramadan is about coming together as a community, sharing blessings and extending kindness to those in need. At a moment when far too many children are observing this month amid unimaginable hardship like war, hunger and poverty, all of us at Save the Children remain committed to helping them survive and thrive. Today, we encourage all of our supporters to honor our shared humanity by showing up for friends, neighbors and local communities who are observing Ramadan in the U.S. and across the globe. Here are just a few ways you can participate regardless of your culture or background: - Donate food to your local mosque to help provide iftar meals, which are eaten after the sun sets each day during Ramadan when the daily fast ends. Iftar meals are a significant event and can be costly, so many families rely on their mosque. You can easily find local mosques where you can donate food with a quick web search — or even go the extra mile and offer to host your own iftar meal!
- Support friends, colleagues and other members of your community as they observe Ramadan throughout the month. This can include being respectful of fasting times, providing workplace flexibility for fasting and prayer and simply being considerate and curious about people’s observance.
- Educate your children about Ramadan so they can expand their knowledge of Muslim traditions and practices to support their friends and classmates. We’ve collected a list of Ramadan-focused books we recommend for children of all ages — you can find it here.
- Consider making a financial donation in honor of children observing Ramadan. Sadaqah, or charitable giving, is core to observing Ramadan. In places like Gaza, Sudan and Syria — where millions of children observe Ramadan — violence, displacement and other challenges are making this year’s observance more difficult than ever. Take a moment to learn how a gift to Save the Children can make a lasting difference in the lives of children and their families.
We thank you for your allyship and your commitment to putting children first — always and everywhere. We’ll share more updates about how Ramadan is being observed across the globe in the weeks ahead — and more opportunities for you to support children in crisis. With gratitude and compassion, Tanjum Chowdhury Email Marketing Save the Children |
