Pamela,
Every day, this corrupt administration attacks our constitutional rights, including our rights to due process, equal protection under the law, and birthright citizenship.
That's why I've introduced the Defend the Fourteenth Amendment Resolution to reaffirm and recognize the Fourteenth Amendment as a cornerstone of our multiracial democracy and to ensure that our democracy works for all of us, not just the powerful few.
The Fourteenth Amendment should not be up for debate, but as we speak, Trump's corrupt Supreme Court is considering the constitutionality of Trump's illegal executive order to end birthright citizenship.
At the same time, ICE is breaking down people's doors without judicial warrants and deporting people without trial.
We're demanding Congress re-affirm the Fourteenth Amendment and defend our constitutional rights. Add your name as a grassroots co-signer of the Defend the Fourteenth Amendment Resolution now to demand Congress act.
This resolution was introduced in collaboration with dozens of advocacy organizations, including Popular Democracy whose Executive Director, DaMareo Cooper, said, "Eroding the 14 Amendment―and its fundamental promises of due process and equal protection under the law―is an assault on the very fabric of our democracy."
People are being held in detention facilities in inhumane conditions where they are being denied their right to basic necessities including nutrition and healthcare. There are reports of torture and abuse―including sexual violence―in ICE detention. And, more people died in ICE custody last year than in any of the past 20 years.
The criminalization of immigration is rooted in white supremacist ideology about who belongs here. We're demanding Congress reaffirm the rights of everyone on U.S. soil.
Add your name as a grassroots co-signer of the Defend the Fourteenth Amendment Resolution and demand Congress reaffirm our constitutional rights.
Thank you for taking action and standing with me for justice for all.
In solidarity,
Rashida
