Summer heat is getting dangerous. Higher temperatures, overcrowded emergency rooms, soaring electric bills, and families wondering how they'll stay safe.
Extreme heat is the deadliest weather-related hazard in America, yet our country still has no reliable federal system for responding to heat emergencies. Scientists and public health experts warn that this gap leaves communities less prepared to protect people when dangerous heat strikes.
Yet, Trump and FEMA refuse to treat this crisis with the urgency it deserves, leaving cities, counties, and local health departments to shoulder the burden on their own.
Heat sends thousands of people to emergency rooms every year, worsens heart and lung disease, and can quickly become deadly without access to cooling. Meanwhile, local governments are scrambling to open cooling centers, expand emergency services, and protect residents with limited resources.
No family should have to choose between staying cool and paying the bills. No community should be left to face a growing public health emergency without the support it needs. We need leaders who will take this crisis seriously.
