Every 30 seconds, an infant is stillborn in Africa.  Every 2 minutes, a mother loses her life in childbirth.  Every year, 4.8 million children die before their 5th birthday. The truth is, most of these deaths are preventable. A routine checkup. A skilled birth attendant. A simple vaccine. These are the things that stand between a family’s joy and an unbearable loss — and in the world’s most fragile places, they’re often out of reach.
