Imagine you’re trying to donate to one of the most venerated civil rights organizations in the country, but your financial institution won’t allow you to. That’s what’s facing the Southern Poverty Law Center right now.
Trump’s Department of “Justice,” if it could be called that, has accused the SPLC of criminal fraud, claiming it lied to banks and donors about its reliance on confidential informants inside extremist groups.
So now, rather than having a backbone, Fidelity, Charles Schwab, and Vanguard are already cutting off millions of dollars in donations to the organization. Whatever happened to being innocent until proven guilty? Guess that only applies to Trump and no one else.
These influential financial institutions are prohibiting customers with donor-advised funds (DAFs) from making grants to the center. That means the SPLC is missing out on critical funds to fight against this unwarranted attack.
We know that the SPLC’s track record is proven. Trump’s Justice Department, not so much.
Send a message directly to Fidelity, Charles Schwab, and Vanguard demanding they stop blocking donations to the Southern Poverty Law Center now, before they’ve had their day in court.
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
