Pamela,
For years now, anti-democracy forces have targeted the U.S. Census as a means of handpicking who has a voice in our country and who doesn't.
We saw that on full display in Project 2025 — undermining the census is an integral part of the plan — and we’re seeing it play out today:
FIRST: During the first Trump administration, they tried to manipulate the 2020 census — an attempt to count only the people they wanted. The fair maps movement fought back — and we won.
THEN: The Census Bureau, under the second Trump administration, has ratcheted up its efforts to undermine a true count.
NOW: Despite a partisan lawsuit that tried to undermine the scientific foundation of the census count in order to force a mid-decade census, a federal court just threw out the case, protecting the census.
Why does this matter? We need careful monitoring and grassroots engagement to ensure that the Census Bureau’s critical work remains non-partisan, and that our communities know about the importance of the census.
Fair elections depend on a reliable census — fair maps require an accurate population count.
Thank you for making a difference where it counts,
Jacob Carrel
