Pamela, We’re in a state-by-state fight to stop lawmakers from enacting new racist voting maps. And now the spotlight is on Mississippi — with two critical opportunities to show our people power. If you’re in Mississippi: Can you join your fellow Magnolia Staters at one of these two events? Or if you know someone who lives there, can you spread the word about these two events? The Mississippi legislature refused to hold public hearings on voting rights for all Mississippians, so community organizations are hosting their own People’s Hearings:
Mississippi Delta: The People’s Hearing and Rally Saturday, July 11
Hearing: 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Rally: 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The Pinnacle at Coahoma Community College
3240 Friars Point Rd., Clarksdale, MS 38614
North Mississippi: The People’s Hearing Tuesday, July 14
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Brown Missionary Baptist Church
980 Stateline Rd. E., Southaven, MS 38671
The hearings will discuss voting rights and redistricting and provide opportunities for voters to share their visions for a free and fair democracy.
And the time is now to make your voice heard. Just last month, strong grassroots turnout at the Georgia State Capitol played a key role in holding off new rigged maps — by showing just how strongly people opposed that potential attack on democracy. And that win came after huge turnout in South Carolina led to a failed redistricting push in May. Now we’ve got to keep up the momentum and fight in Mississippi — and across the South. Mississippi community members: Join the People’s Hearings on Saturday or Tuesday — and bring a friend who’s also determined to defend free and fair elections. Please help spread the word by sharing those RSVP links above with anyone you know who might be able to attend. And if you can, pitch in a donation today — help our team at Fair Fight Action and our partners continue holding grassroots events that build public opposition to rigged maps. In solidarity, The Fair Fight Action Team
