Pamela,
Remember when Google's motto was "don't be evil?" Well, seems like Google doesn't remember that, because alongside YouTube, they've been promoting - and profiting from - ads recruiting for Trump's private army. The Trump administration is spending $100 million on an aggressive recruitment campaign, using wartime, anti-immigrant rhetoric.
Google and YouTube are accepting money covered with Renee Good and Alex Pretti's blood. No corporation in America should be supporting ICE, let alone taking their money and profiting from it. Tell these CEOs to take down these vile ads and stop accepting money from ICE immediately.
These ads are targeted toward people who listen to right-wing or "patriotic" podcasts or show an interest in guns and tactical gear. The DHS is now utilizing "niche, neo-Nazi-belowed music" which openly embraces white supremacy. Dog whistles used to be done by supporters, but now, they're being done directly by the administration.
Not only are these ads recruiting, but there are Spanish-language ads on Google and YouTube targeting and harassing Spanish-speaking populations in the U.S. These tech companies shouldn't be profiting from this fearmongering and hatred.
Corporations should have a responsibility to their consumers, and that responsibility is to not spread and perpetuate hate. YouTube and Google's CEOs need to hear from you: Tell them to stop promoting ICE and taking its blood money.
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
