Congress can cut Trump and Hegseth’s war budget in HALF

$1.5 trillion for the Pentagon? The Slash the Pentagon Act would change that.

Pamela: We couldn’t agree more, which is why we’re urgently rallying support for Sen. Markey’s Slash the Pentagon Act — legislation to CUT Trump’s Pentagon budget request in HALF.

While Trump threatens to bomb bridges, power plants, and other civilian infrastructure across Iran, which would amount to war crimes, Defense Secretary Hegseth struggles to defend the war and its mounting human and economic costs.[1] The last thing Congress should be doing is greenlighting more violence by fulfilling their whopping $1.5 TRILLION Pentagon budget demand.

The weapons lobby is digging in while Trump and Hegseth ramp up the pressure to pass their $1.5T plus-up. We say: No More. So we need to flood congressional offices with our demand in return: prioritize people over the Pentagon by slashing Trump’s war budget in half.

Earlier this month, Senate Democrats held up the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) — an “unprecedented” setback for the must-pass bill, and it’s why lawmakers are now rallying behind legislation to cut the Pentagon budget in half.

It's growing proof that lawmakers are beginning to understand what we’ve long known: billions of dollars spent on weapons and war don't make us safer.

Budgets are moral documents, revealing what we value. Right now, too many politicians are comfortable telling us there's plenty of money for bombs, missiles, and weapons contractor payouts — but never enough for affordable housing, health care, or lowering costs for working families.

The Slash the Pentagon Act offers a different vision than this broken status quo. Instead of a record-breaking payout for weapons contractors, this legislation would force Congress to rethink priorities and begin investing in the things that actually improve people's lives. It’s a concrete alternative at a moment when support for another trillion-dollar check for the Pentagon is crumbling.

The weapons lobby is counting on members of Congress to rubberstamp this year’s Pentagon budget — but our advocacy has helped wrench open a critical window of opportunity to make sure this year’s debate is anything but business as usual.
