We can’t get complacent

Winning this U.S. Senate race in Ohio is going to be incredibly difficult. Even though the polls show a statistically tied race – with some even showing Sherrod leading – and the pundits say we’re on the road to flipping this seat, we’re under no illusions.

It’s Ohio, after all. A state that we’re just starting to turn from red back to purple.

Let us be clear: Sherrod and our team are 100% confident that we can win this race. We fully believe in the grassroots movement we’re building and the power of folks like you.

But with 62 days left until the election, we’re worried about people getting complacent.

While the momentum is on our side now, that can change in an instant. And a major way it can change is through millions of dollars in outside spending.

National Republicans and their dark-money groups are pouring $133 million into this race. Tech billionaire Peter Thiel is spending $3.6 million this week alone to defeat Sherrod. And experts project total spending could land at more than five times that.

It’s more money than any of us can truly fathom, and it’ll do real damage to our chances of flipping this seat – the seat we need to win to take back the Senate majority.

We’ve taken some big risks – kickstarting our organizing programs and going up on TV with our first ads early – but today, we need your help to keep pushing. To keep fighting. To keep surging ahead.

We can do what nobody thought possible just months ago and flip this crucial seat, but not without the resources to stay competitive in the closest, most-watched race in the country. That’s why we have to ask:
