Pamela, the U.S. government continues to enable unconscionable suffering — including settler violence which has killed nine Americans in the West Bank.
Whether they’re targeting olive harvesters, families who have farmed the land for generations, members of Congress, news crews, or others, the scale of Israeli settler violence seems to know no bounds.
But right now, momentum is growing to turn the tide. Today, the Senate is set to vote on a privileged resolution from Sens. Van Hollen (D-MD), Kaine (D-VA), and Sanders (I-VT) demanding a State Department investigation on violence in the West Bank.
It’s a rarely used but powerful maneuver for two key reasons: 1) It isn’t subject to a president’s veto, and 2) Confirmation of human rights violations in the West Bank could spell an END to arms sales and other offensive U.S. assistance to the Israeli government.
Polls show that Americans hold historic levels of opposition to U.S. support for the Israeli government's atrocities — violence that our own government is complicit in. Justice looks like accountability, but despite broad public opposition, our latest intel shows that this vote is going to be close.

"This resolution will require the State Department to begin to produce these answers, which are owed to the families of those who have lost loved ones, to the American people, and to all of those who want to ensure recipients of U.S. taxpayer dollars are acting in line with our laws and our values.”[1] – Senator Van Hollen
Words come easy, but actions speak volumes — and that’s exactly why we need the Senate to act.
Here’s how it works: The Foreign Assistance Act gives Congress the power to call for an investigation into human rights abuses from nations that receive taxpayer-funded security aid.
If passed, S.Res.852 would trigger a State Department investigation into how and if U.S. weapons and aid are complicit in human rights abuse resulting from the Israeli government’s actions in the West Bank. State then has 30 days to produce a report. If it fails to do so, ALL security assistance — offensive U.S. military aid, weapons sales, and more — stops until the report is delivered.
Once the report is delivered, its findings can bring about the kind of accountability people, whether in Israel, Palestine, the United States, or beyond, deserve.
It’s critical progress no matter what happens, but ONLY if the resolution passes. That’s where you come in, Pamela.
A vote is planned for today, and we have a lot of work to do to get the 50 votes necessary to make it happen. Can you take two seconds to speak out for truth and justice?
Make no mistake: The pressure we’re building is working. Just 15 senators voted to block a weapons transfer to the Israeli government in early 2025. Months later, 27 senators blocked U.S.-made bombs and rifles bound for the Israeli military. The dam of unequivocal support for the Israeli government broke in the Senate when a record 40 senators voted to halt the transfer of armored bulldozers earlier this year.
Now is our moment to push even further. Let’s hold this coalition together and continue building power to get the majority we need to stop the violence and save lives. Remind every senator where you stand today.
