For more than two weeks, families in Gary, Indiana were left in the dark, Pamela.
After a devastating storm wiped out the local electric grid, residents spent more than 14 days without power, facing extreme heat, spoiled food, and growing health risks.
And Gary isn’t alone. This summer in Memphis, a single storm knocked out power to more than 100,000 households as temperatures were pushed into the 90s. Deadly flash floods hit the Grand Canyon. The National Weather Service warned communities all across the country about extreme weather from severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and flash flooding to wildfires and heat waves.
This should be a wake-up call. Instead, Donald Trump is making it harder for communities to prepare for the next disaster.
Trump has slashed staffing at FEMA and the National Weather Service, weakening the agencies Americans rely on for warnings, emergency response, and recovery. At the same time, he’s diverting critical resources to terrorize our communities and kidnap our neighbors.
Climate Power is working to expose the consequences of Trump’s reckless agenda and fight for the clean energy and resilient infrastructure our communities need. Will you chip in today to power this work?

We’re already seeing what happens when critical disaster resources are stripped away.
Since January 2025, Trump has shrunk FEMA’s staffing by about 14%, contributing to a staggering backlog of more than 300,000 projects. Fewer trained staff can mean slower federal response when communities urgently need personnel, supplies, generators, communications systems, and emergency support.
And these challenges are only growing. Extreme weather is becoming more disruptive, electricity demand is rising, and our power grid is already under enormous strain.
Families should be able to trust that warnings will come in time and that help will be there when they need it.
Trump is taking us in the opposite direction.
A $10 donation helps Climate Power make sure Americans know what’s at stake, who is responsible, and what we can do to build a safer, more resilient future. Chip in $10 today to help us keep up the fight.
The next storm is coming. We need to make sure our communities are ready for it.
Stay safe out there,
Climate Power
