Dear MoveOn member,
Right now, the Department of Homeland Security is scouting, purchasing, and retrofitting 23 industrial warehouses across the country.
Their goal? To transform spaces meant for storing products into massive detention centers capable of caging between 1,500 and 10,000 people each.1
This isn't just a plan—it's already moving.
Backed by $170 billion from last summer’s Big Ugly Bill, ICE is currently detaining over 70,000 people and is aggressively scaling up to reach a capacity of 100,000.2
Donald Trump is taking his first-term’s kids-in-cages travesty and supercharging it into detention camps for tens of thousands of families. We can’t afford to take our eyes off of ICE.
On Saturday, April 25, we are organizing tens of thousands of people to attend protests outside of warehouses, courthouses, and town halls for a National Day of Action. We need your help to support organizers on the front lines in cities like San Antonio, Texas; Surprise, Arizona; and Hagerstown, Maryland, where these "warehouse jails" are being proposed.
We cannot let this become the new normal. Will you chip in in $9 today to fuel the Communities Not Cages National Day of Action? (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
These ICE warehouses are a perfect storm of everything MoveOn stands against:
- Abuses of human rights: Industrial warehouses lack the sewage, water, and ventilation infrastructure required for human habitation. History remembers when we used warehouses for incarceration in the 1940s; it was a disgrace then, and it is a disgrace now.3
- Corporate profiteering: Real estate developers and brokers are pocketing millions in expedited "cash-outs" and lucrative commissions by selling these sites to ICE.4
- Decimation of due process: These facilities are designed to isolate people from their families and legal counsel, disappearing our neighbors into a system rife with abuse.5
We are facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the U.S. of our lifetimes, and the most despicable part is that it is entirely preventable.
We know we can win.
In Republican-led states like Tennessee, local organizing forced ICE to cancel their plans for a massive detention center that would have caged up to 16,000 people.6 Across the country, everyday people are rising up against ICE’s abuses and proving that we can stop them in their tracks.
But ICE is moving so fast, we can’t keep defeating these warehouses one by one. We need resources to scale this resistance nationwide.
Your contribution will help us provide toolkits to local organizers, fund media outreach to expose these secret deals, and ensure that on April 25, our message is unignorable: Invest in our communities—not in cages.
Donate $9 to MoveOn and help stop Trump's ICE detention warehouses! (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
Thanks for all you do.
