The Supreme Court just gutted the Voting Rights Act

We’ve been preparing for this devastating ruling, and we’re ready to fight back.

Pamela, this is a day we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.

This Supreme Court ruling has effectively gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, nullifying critical protections for communities of color.

This is a devastating blow to the crown jewel of the civil rights movement — denigrating the sacrifices that generations of Americans made for every American to have an equal voice in our democracy. This ruling will have seismic effects on the ability of communities of color to be represented in the halls of power.

Let’s make one thing clear: we have been preparing for this ruling. But the same can be said for anti-democracy forces across the country. As you read this, extremist politicians are rapidly drawing up plans to continue to push mid-decade redraws and potentially upend minority opportunity districts across the country.

Redistricting Action was built for this moment, and we’re ready to fight like hell. Today’s decision made clear that we are in the middle of the civil rights fight of our generation, and it’s a test we simply cannot fail.

That’s why we’re asking you to rush in an emergency donation so we have the resources needed to push back on additional mid-decade redraws that will silence the voices of voters — and build the political power to restore legal protections for voters across the country.

Here’s what happens next: Louisiana’s fair voting map that includes two Black-opportunity districts has been thrown out.

But that’s not the end of it. Right now, Florida, which has been eagerly waiting for this ruling to give them a new excuse, is in the process of pushing through a new map. They’re passing an even more egregious gerrymander and have made it clear they’ll use this decision as a pretext to do just that. Other states throughout the South may join the redistricting crisis as a result of this ruling.

This is an existential moment for democracy. What happens next will decide so much about the future of voting rights and fairness in America — and we’re not backing down. Donate to Redistricting Action to help make sure we can defeat anti-democracy forces across the country.

Thank you for being a critical part of the movement fighting for fairness and justice.
