It isn’t surprising, but that doesn’t make it any less outrageous, Pamela.
The Supreme Court just ripped away another core American freedom: the right to a fair and equal vote in elections. By allowing lawmakers to draw new voting maps that will significantly weaken representation for communities of color, the Court has just unleashed a new wave of racially discriminatory redistricting. Today’s ruling paves the way for Republicans to redraw maps, giving them the power to create 19 more safe GOP U.S. House seats and eliminate 191 Democratic-held state legislative seats across 10 Southern states. That’s enough to lock in one-party rule for a generation. This ruling does not just affect what state legislatures do in 2026, it has the power to affect our country’s voting maps for generations to come. We’ve been preparing for this egregious ruling, and we’re ready to organize our pro-democracy movement against new gerrymanders. But the scale of our response to this urgent threat will depend in part on the resources we can raise right now. Please make a donation to help fight back for free and fair elections.

Let’s be clear: this ruling, in and of itself, does not immediately redraw any maps. It does not immediately move any voters of color into new districts where their vote can’t make a difference.
Those outcomes aren’t inevitable. The more we push back, the more we can limit the damage. Through grassroots mobilization, public education, coalition building, and public pressure, we can work to prevent new racially discriminatory voting maps. And we can continue advocating for long-term solutions to this ruling, including federal legislation that would ensure fair representation. You’ve already made a critical difference to power our work. Now we’re asking you to take action once again at this crucial moment. Please make a donation of
