An all-hands-on-deck moment

Pamela:

The pro-democracy movement has ten words for state officials who keep drawing unjust maps:

“We’ll see you in court and at the ballot box.”

In the past few weeks since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, extremist lawmakers have leaped headfirst into egregious redistricting schemes — devised to rip voting power away from Black and brown communities.

But our side is fighting back.

Our affiliate, the National Redistricting Foundation (NRF), has already supported voters taking anti-democracy leaders to court in Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida to put a halt to the rapid-fire power grab being orchestrated from D.C.

And while the NRF is busy fighting in the judicial system, our team at Redistricting Action continues to educate and mobilize voters in key states against outrageous gerrymandering attempts.

But we’re counting on this team’s ongoing support to fuel our grassroots advocacy for fair maps. Please make a donation of any amount today and help defend democracy in a moment of crisis.

Here is a quick rundown of recent action in key states:

  • In Louisiana, politicians rushed to suspend an ongoing election so they could gerrymander new maps that would take effect this year. The NRF has backed Louisiana voters in court who are continuing to push for maps that are as representative as possible.
  • When Alabama launched a desperate and hypocritical effort to disrupt an ongoing election and set new district lines for 2026, the NRF filed a legal brief urging the courts to block it. Despite a three-judge lower court (a majority of whom were appointed by Trump) ruling that the map intentionally discriminates against Black voters, the Supreme Court decided the state can use it.
  • Florida’s newest gerrymander — passed only hours after the Supreme Court ruling — is a blatant violation of the state constitution. The NRF is directing litigation and providing financial support for a legal challenge against the new manipulated maps — so Floridians can see justice for this blatant attack on their rightful voting power.

Even in a post-Callais world, checks and balances still exist. Judges can still strike down illegal gerrymanders and prevent politicians from stifling the will of the people.

And ordinary citizens still have the power to organize in order to demand fair maps from their state legislators.

From courthouses to state houses, this is an all-hands-on-deck moment. So while our affiliate continues to fight in court, Redistricting Action will keep on rallying voters to make their voices heard against rigged maps.

In states like Louisiana and Florida, our team has mobilized constituents to contact their lawmakers and demand that they oppose new gerrymanders. We are building public pressure, holding map manipulators accountable, and empowering people to keep up the fight for democracy.

Grassroots donations make it possible to expand our public education and advocacy where it’s needed the most. Right now, we must hold the line for fair representation at a time when power-hungry politicians are tearing it down.

As long as anti-democracy extremists are intent on stripping communities of their rights, we will continue to fight back like hell. Chip in now to help power our grassroots organizing for fair maps.

Thanks so much,

Jacob
