Trump and Hegseth want $67 billion more for their illegal war

Here’s what comes after Congress’ historic rebuke of Trump’s deeply unpopular war.  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏

Pamela: Until Tuesday, Congress had never passed a concurrent war powers resolution through both chambers. That all changed after the Senate’s historic vote ordering Trump to withdraw U.S. troops from hostilities against Iran.

Trump’s response to this historic defeat? Scare Congress into submission.

He rushed to Capitol Hill to scold lawmakers. He pushed his allies to vote down a separate resolution in a shameless, symbolic attempt to salve his ego. And he’s not stopping…

Now, after making us all less safe and plunging the world into economic crisis, Trump and Hegseth are demanding $67 BILLION to cover the costs of this disastrous, illegal war. It’s their war, but your wallet, so we say: Not a chance.

Trump officials, Iran hawks, and weapons lobbyists are growing increasingly desperate as the walls close in. But WE have the momentum. Now is the time to flex the power of our anti-war coalition to say not one more dime for Trump’s reckless wars and violence.

The closer you look at Trump’s supplemental funding request, the more depraved his strategy appears.

Funding for agriculture aid, nuclear security programs, and global health initiatives is included to serve as cover for his outrageous request — a slap in the face to taxpayers who are told: no relief for communities at home and abroad without tens of billions of dollars for war.

It’s the same hostage-taking strategy that Trump’s using to hold up an urgently needed bipartisan housing affordability bill to secure passage of his bill that would make it harder for people to vote. We see right through it, Pamela, and we’re going to make sure Congress does too.

After countless letters, calls, and petitions, we finally pushed lawmakers to flex their power over the White House earlier this week when Congress asserted its Article I authority to decide when and whether the U.S. goes to war. Now, our job is to make sure they don’t undermine it by footing the bill for Trump’s unauthorized war on Iran.

That’s why we’re deepening our efforts once more as we face a craven war bailout on the taxpayer’s dime: mobilizing tens of thousands of constituents daily to contact their Congressional offices, strengthening coalitions with partners across the movement to hammer our message home, and sounding the alarm in the media to make $67 billion for war a nonstarter across wide swaths of the public.

Thank you for working for peace,
