Pamela, we just scored a major victory in our fight to protect your private voter data.
In Maryland, a judge just sided with us and REJECTED Trump’s attempt to demand the state turn over full voter rolls.
Let’s back up: Donald Trump clearly believes that his ticket to permanent power is to single out and silence anyone he doesn’t think will support him – including marginalized voters and naturalized citizens who worked hard to earn their right to vote.
So, he directed the DOJ in state after state to collect names, addresses, and partial Social Security and driver’s license numbers – so that his administration can create a massive database and purge eligible voters from the rolls.
We saw what this scheme was and took immediate action last year – intervening in lawsuits across the country to stop this unlawful federal data grab in its tracks.
And our early bet paid off: Common Cause and our allies currently hold a 9-0 win rate in voter roll lawsuits across the country. Judges in state after state agree that the power to administer elections belongs with the states.
These victories are incredible, and we deserve to celebrate every single one. But we have no plans to stop here.
Because once that data leaves state control, it could be misused, handed over to DOGE, or weaponized for political gain. That’s why we’re still fighting in court in eight states and the District of Columbia – losing is simply not an option.
Pamela, these may seem like isolated fights – but I know you see the big picture.
When we’re up against a coordinated, multi-state effort to silence our voices, we need a fighter like Common Cause – like Common Cause Maryland, Common Cause Minnesota, Common Cause Nebraska, Common Cause Pennsylvania, and Common Cause in your home state, too.
Our legal experts are fighting for you – and for the democracy we all want to leave for the next generation.
We’re proud of the strength, speed, and strategy our legal team is bringing to these cases – and even prouder to have supporters like you standing with us at this moment.
Thank you for believing in this work,
The team at Common Cause
P.S If you want us to keep winning these fights and defend our elections from bad actors, will you contribute today?
