Trump's order sets out to create lists of citizens eligible to vote in each state, mandate that mail ballots only be sent to voters on approved lists, prioritize investigations into ballots sent to ineligible voters, and threaten to cut off federal funding for states that don't comply with the new requirements. Here are a few key points you can bring up to highlight the absurdity — and the autocratic origins — of this order: - Just days ago, Trump himself voted by mail in Florida. Now he wants to restrict that same right for millions of Americans.
- Three federal judges already blocked provisions of a similar Trump order trying to change how elections are run — because presidents don't have the power to do this.
- Naturally, this tracks back to Putin. Last summer, Trump declared that he'd try to ban mail voting after hearing from Putin that supposedly "it's impossible to have mail-in voting and have an honest election."
- But mail voting fraud is virtually nonexistent — only 0.000043% of all mail ballots cast according to a Brookings Institution Report. And when Georgia's Republican Secretary of State audited 8.2 million voters in 2024, he only found a 0.002% rate of possible irregularities.
