I'm furious, Pamela. Donald Trump just turned his back on the global fight against the climate crisis.
On Wednesday, Trump unilaterally withdrew the U.S. from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the treaty that underpins all global climate cooperation, and from 65 other international organizations.1 He accused them of promoting "radical climate policies."2
Pamela, the only radical climate policy is to abandon the fight for a safer future while the lives and well-being of people on this planet are at risk. We can't sit by while Trump puts our planet on a path to climate chaos.
Will you add your name to stand with global climate cooperation and action?
In the past 12 months, wildfires scorched Los Angeles, Hurricane Melissa pummelled the Caribbean, and floods and landslides swamped India and Pakistan. Clinging to the fossil fuel era won't bring our country economic strength — it will only bring death, destruction, and isolation from the rest of the world.
Trump may not like it, but the fact is international climate cooperation works. The UNFCCC's Paris Agreement alone has successfully reduced projected warming by 2100 from 3.6°C to 2.7°C.3 Now is NOT the time to give up on climate action.
We won't let Trump stop us from rising up to demand that the U.S. cut climate pollution and support climate-vulnerable nations. And he can't stop the global momentum toward clean energy and climate justice. Now more than ever, we need to stand united in our fight for a safe and livable planet.
Help us show the world that we're still in the climate fight. Add your name today.
In solidarity,
Katrina for Team 350
