Pamela, this has been a difficult week.
Between the President's reckless and unconstitutional military actions in Venezuela, and the outrageous killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis (with a similar shooting just yesterday in Portland, Oregon), the weight of injustice can feel too heavy to bear.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, Pamela, we want you to know you're not alone.
Millions of people in this country feel the same way you do right now – and the best way we can respond to this sort of horrific political violence is coming together, living our values, and speaking up for a country where every one of us is safe and welcome.
Common Cause is joining our partners for rapid response mobilizations – please find one near you >>
These efforts are all connected, but different events are focusing on different issues – so find one that speaks to you.
One tactic is to shine a spotlight on two oil companies set to profit hugely from Trump's military actions in Venezuela – Chevron and Citgo – while the rest of us pay the price.
So, we're going to hit them in their pocketbooks and rally outside gas stations and show that we won't sit by in silence while Trump spills blood for billionaires.
We're also demanding "ICE Out For Good," with hundreds of events across the country to demand accountability, honor the lives lost, and make visible the human cost of ICE's campaign of intimidation and terror.
Together, we can push back on Trump and his right-wing noise machine – and show they can't convince us our eyes and ears are lying to us as they try to turn our country into a police state.
Find a nonviolent, lawful, and community-led action near you >>
Pamela, our government's number one job is to keep our communities safe.
But not only is the current regime failing – they're making intentional, political choices to enrich billionaires and roll back decades of social progress, while the rest of us pay the price, including with our lives.
We hope you'll join us in showing up and speaking out this weekend,
The team at Common Cause
