Pamela, we'll keep this brief:
Yesterday, our government bombed Venezuela's capital, captured its president, and announced that the United States will "run" the country for the indefinite future to "get the oil flowing."
Reminder: There is NO congressional authorization for these strikes. This operation is illegal, just as the earlier boat strikes off the Latin American coast were illegal. And yet, Trump is already threatening to rinse and repeat this horrible playbook in Colombia, Mexico, and Cuba.
Trump cannot rule the United States, nor any other country, like the king he imagines himself to be. Venezuelans must have a say in their own futures, and people in the United States must mobilize to push Congress to take immediate action to rein in this lawless White House.
| ACT NOW |
This operation was never about drugs or democracy. The simple truth is that Venezuela is not a major supplier of drugs to the United States. This was always about profit and power — and a would-be authoritarian hoping to distract the world from his falling approval rates and failing policies.
Much like Libya, Iraq, and Afghanistan before, deposing Maduro in Venezuela will hurt people, cause regional chaos, and solve nothing. If Congress doesn't rein Trump in, he will only be further emboldened to commit more lawless and unaccountable violence against anyone, anywhere.
Venezuelans have endured years of repression and economic collapse. Some may feel relief at the chance for new leadership, while others fear the future. One thing remains clear: Venezuela's future should belong to its people, NOT Trump or U.S. oil companies.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
