BREAKING: Trump illegally strikes Venezuela, threatens more violence

Violence abroad and deprivation at home are all this administration has to offer the world.

Win Without War

Make no mistake, Pamela: The goal of last night's blatant act of aggression from the Trump administration was regime change, and as Trump repeatedly boasted again today, seizing Venezuela's oil.

Trump's alarming remarks also threatened more "horrible and breathtaking" violence. It is a perverse return of the 'Monroe Doctrine' and the naked, destructive imperialism of the 19th century.

Many of you reading this email marched against the war in Iraq decades ago. We did so because we were outraged and opposed to the notion that our government would ignore all international law, abandon diplomacy, and choose to use overwhelming military force with devastating results.

Today, we continue that crucial work and utterly condemn President Trump's reckless strikes on and promises to "run" Venezuela. This operation has thrown the country into further chaos while upending the U.S. Constitution and violating the separation of powers at the core of our democracy.

Our team remains committed to ensuring that pro-peace voices are heard in Washington, and we are already hard at work: talking directly with members of Congress, fielding requests from journalists and movement partners, and getting the word out to activists like you, Pamela.

Today, as we reckon with yet another round of violence, the idea of a peaceful world seems painfully distant. And if you're scared, angry, or overwhelmed, I understand. This moment is challenging.

Violence abroad and deprivation at home are all this administration has to offer the world. When the dust clears from this made-for-social-media spectacle, lives will have been unnecessarily lost, families in Venezuela will still be suffering an economic catastrophe, and people across the United States will continue to struggle amidst the overdose crisis, particularly as this Administration works to rip away the healthcare and services that would offer our communities a chance at care and recovery.

Remembering that we're part of a community of hundreds of thousands strong is a huge source of hope and strength. The road ahead is long, but it's one that we will walk together.

Together, we will reject a status quo that feeds, grows off, and promises more devastating violence — and use our commitment to one another as the foundation to build the more peaceful world we want and deserve.

Thank you for working for peace,
Shayna, on behalf of the Win Without War team
