Raise your voice: Congress must keep children healthy

They must protect SNAP and WIC across the country

Friend, 1 in 5 kids in rural America don’t have enough to eat. Hunger is threatening their education, stunting their development and robbing them of healthy childhoods.  The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) works to prevent that from happening — helping 42 million Americans put food on the table. SNAP ensures hardworking families, beloved grandparents and 16 million children get access to nutritious food.  Last November, their benefits lapsed for the first time in modern history, leaving millions of children at risk. Thankfully, SNAP was fully restored. Congress must protect children’s health and ensure all children are fed. Send a message to your lawmakers and urge them to support nutrition programs that children rely on across the country.   Friend, the SNAP disruption showed our nation how many families are struggling to afford basic pantry staples.  Many were forced to drive miles to the nearest food pantry – just to wait in long lines for limited choices. For every meal these pantries can provide, SNAP provides NINE.  But it’s not the only support system Americans rely on. There's also the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), which helps 7 million moms plus their newborns and toddlers.  Kids’ health and futures depend on Congress taking real steps to protect SNAP and WIC. It’s why your action today — in collaboration with Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) — is so critical.
