One year ago this week, thousands of children across southern California left their homes and belongings behind as a storm of fire tore through their communities. This was the start of a three-week-long wildfire disaster across the Los Angeles area that left an indelible mark on the landscape and the children who lived through it. From the very beginning, Save the Children was there alongside them. We’ve met essential and long-term needs for thousands of children affected by the fires thanks to our community of supporters like you. Communities cannot begin to recover after natural disasters like the wildfires until child care centers are back up and running. Children need to get back to a comforting, familiar routine, and parents need to get back to work. So Save the Children has been working with childcare networks and partners to ensure children return to learning, re-establish their normal routines, build resilience and heal. So far, Save the Children has helped over 115 child care centers reopen, getting children back to learning and parents back to work. Today, we’re sharing one of their stories. |
