Spotify has an incredible number of podcasts, albums, and news sources available on its platform. But Spotify has an issue with disinformation and extremism. The streaming service's No. 1 podcaster –– with his own, exclusive $100 million deal –– is none other than the racist, transphobic, conspiracy theorist Joe Rogan.

Last week, singer Neil Young penned an open letter to Spotify saying he would take his music off the platform if they didn't remove Rogan's podcast, and Joni Mitchell did the same thing this weekend, demanding her music be taken down from the streaming service. After Spotify announced they're going forward with removing Young's music, #SpotifyDeleted trended for hours on Twitter.¹ The moment to act is now.

By giving a platform to Joe Rogan and his show, "The Joe Rogan Experience," Spotify is handing a mic to an anti-vax,² white supremacist, and his guests, to speak at length about their life-threatening lies and conspiracy theories to millions of listeners who come across the podcast every day. It's time Spotify listened to its users and our demands. Spotify must be a space for sharing ideas, stories, and music, not deadly disinformation about COVID, hate and bigotry.
