The World Cup is here and so is dangerous summer heat.
Whether you’re watching along and cheering for your favorite team or seeing how your city is impacted by stadium travel, one thing is for certain: The summer heat is here. Meanwhile, our energy bills just got a whole lot more expensive.
ADD YOUR NAME: Staying cool shouldn’t cost this much. We need cheap, reliable clean energy and a functional FEMA to step in during heatwaves and extreme weather.
The World Cup is a joyful experience exciting millions across the globe. And as hosts, it’s our responsibility to ensure this event keeps everyone from the players to the workers to the fans safe from the very real weather threats looming. We’re seizing this moment to build awareness about the dangers of extreme weather in communities across the country, launching ads to reach audiences where they’re at, and working with partners to host events in key battleground states.
Summers are getting more dangerous than ever. And the ability to keep the A/C going and our fans turned on is more expensive than ever before. Since Trump’s inauguration, energy bills are up 16%. He cut needed investments in clean energy that could help rebuild the grid with affordable, reliable, and clean energy, killing 143,755 jobs and 382 projects. That’s enough energy to power 17 million homes.
And to top it all off, the funding to help protect communities against the deadly impacts of extreme heat is evaporating thanks to Donald Trump. FEMA, the agency that should be helping us prepare for and recover from the next disaster, has been nearly incapacitated thanks to Trump. When Trump’s FEMA receives pleas for help, it’s slower than ever to send relief, especially for states that did not vote for him.
Trump’s disastrous presidency is hitting us as record-breaking heat affects our homes, the World Cup, and our ever-increasing bills. Staying cool shouldn’t cost this much, but we can do something about it. Take action today.
