In case you missed it, here’s a recording of our conversation with Ari Berman about his book Minority Rule: The Right-Wing Attack on the Will of the People — And the Fight to Resist It. Berman laid out a long-term scheme by right-wing extremists to preserve white rule and prevent communities of color from exercising their full power in American democracy — from the plan’s early ideological origins, to the creation of the “voter fraud” myth, to the most aggressive attempt in modern history to simply throw out the results of a free and fair election, and more. And here’s where you can watch our conversation with Dr. Carol Anderson, author of One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression Is Destroying Our Democracy. Even though she wrote the book in 2018, it feels like it was written for this exact moment. Dr. Anderson exposed the insidious blueprint behind modern-day voter suppression, and how the tactics have become more procedural and bureaucratic than during Jim Crow. She also pointed us toward how we can fight back, with examples of how people-power can still move the needle.
