Pamela, Cubans are already struggling through blackouts, hunger, and water scarcity caused by a U.S. oil blockade and sanctions. Troubling reports indicate that the Trump administration could make it even worse.
For months, Trump has set the stage for regime change, warning that “Cuba is next,” threatening to “take” Cuba and depose its president, and ordering the Pentagon to draw up war plans for the island nation. These threats recently culminated in an outrageous State Department report accusing the Cuban government of “infiltrat[ing] the highest reaches of the U.S. government”.[1] This morning, news broke that the U.S. government is increasing its intelligence assets in Cuba.[2]
As we enter a sixth month of Trump’s illegal war on Iran, and with just a few more days before the Senate leaves for its August recess, we need Congress to take the reins NOW and stop any violence before it begins.
Pamela: Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) isn’t waiting. He’s introduced a war powers resolution (WPR) to BLOCK Trump from launching military strikes against Cuba. It could be voted on soon, and that’s why lawmakers need to hear from you today.

DC decision-makers have long (and wrongly) assumed that broad economic sanctions will inflict such pain on a country’s population that its people will rise up and overthrow their government. The reality in Cuba has been far more grim: state repression, hospitals limiting surgeries or access to medicine, increased poverty, and children going hungry.
People in Cuba have survived amidst this failed strategy for more than 60 years.
Pamela, Cubans should decide their own future, but they won’t be able to if Trump and Secretary Rubio deepen their suffering with violence and regime change.
That’s why, as Trump threatens hostile, violent action against the Cuban government, Cuba’s humanitarian catastrophe deepens — and we refuse to look away.
Sen. Kaine’s WPR to prevent strikes on Cuba could come up for a vote soon. We need to build up as much momentum as we can and quickly. This is how we stop a war before it starts. Can we count on you to join us?
From Iran to Venezuela to Cuba and beyond, the U.S. government is complicit in incredible suffering. It’s appalling — and it requires us to use every ounce of agency we have to push for change.
