In 2024, Sherrod was fighting to defend his Senate seat in Ohio.

Donald Trump and the full force of the GOP came after him with baseless attacks and smears because they knew that defeating him was key to winning the Senate majority.

Despite that, at this point two years ago, the momentum was on our side. Sherrod was leading in the polls.

But then… The money started pouring in.

Republicans started outspending Democrats that September. They were outspending us in nearly every major Ohio TV and radio market. They were spreading lies about Sherrod on Fox News and social media. Megadonors were funneling in millions to support our opponent.

Sherrod had held an early advantage in the polls – but the onslaught of GOP outside spending once September hit was too much to overcome.

We lost by 4 points.

Republicans won control of the Senate.

And Ohio broke the record for the most expensive non-presidential election in U.S. history.

We fought as hard as we could, but in the end, we came up short.

We don’t know about you, but we never want to feel that way again.
