We’re suing Trump again

Beyond the ridiculous idea that Trump should be allowed to dole out $1.8 billion with little to no oversight, this glorified slush fund is unconstitutional – violating the separation of powers and the First and Fourteenth Amendments. It’s only made headlines this week – but here at Common Cause, we’ve been watchdogging against Donald Trump’s attempt to shake down the government he’s in charge of from the very beginning. Anyone who’s paying attention knows Trump’s real objective is staying in power, so he can continue making money off the backs of Americans. That starts with undercutting the 2026 elections – that’s the common thread between his mid-decade gerrymanders, attacks on vote by mail, and push for armed, masked, ICE agents at the polls. Now, with this January 6th giveaway, he’s telling anyone willing to break the law to help him that he has their back. That is a real threat to our democratic way of life – to our identity as a country that resolves its differences through free and fair elections, not violence.
