Have you ever thought about signing up to be a poll worker?

We’re teaming up with Power the Polls

Pamela, if you’re looking for one of the most effective ways you can help our elections run smoothly, we’re asking you to please consider being a poll worker in 2026. Sign up today to get started on the application process!

Poll workers are the too-often-unsung heroes who keep polling places running — and keep the process fair and efficient — so everyone can cast their ballot and have it counted.

And if there aren’t enough poll workers available, there can be real consequences. A study found that poll worker shortages contributed to longer lines for voters, and that lines were longer at precincts serving more people of color.

In addition, look at these stories from around the Texas primary earlier this year:

“Nine polling locations close due to poll worker shortage in Hidalgo County” —ValleyCentral

“Poll worker shortage is forcing Montgomery County to combine more than a dozen voting precincts” —Houston Chronicle

“Election officials warn that Tarrant County may face challenges on Tuesday because of a shortage of election workers” —CBS News

If someone doesn’t have time to wait in a long line before their shift starts, or if they can’t spare the gas money to drive to a more distant polling place, they might not be able to cast their ballot. And we need everyone to have equal access to the ballot to ensure free and fair elections.

To help prevent these shortfalls, we’re mounting an aggressive effort with our partners to recruit more poll workers. We’re proud to team up with Power the Polls, a nonpartisan initiative which has driven over a million poll worker sign-ups and supported election administrators in thousands of precincts since its founding in 2020. People who’ve gotten involved through Power the Polls have reported overwhelmingly positive takeaways. In a survey after the 2022 elections, 95% of poll workers they recruited said they had a satisfying experience. 88% said they’d be interested in serving again. And 85% said that their local poll worker training left them feeling prepared to get the job done.
