Two things can be true at the same time, Pamela: 

1. We’re in the middle of an urgent, state-by-state redistricting crisis as lawmakers rush to rip power away from Black and brown voters in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s ruling that gutted the Voting Rights Act.
2. We’re ALSO preparing to face an equally dangerous threat to fair representation and fair maps: Efforts to manipulate the 2030 Census.

Traditionally, map redraws would only happen once a decade — after the census. Now, in this era of perpetual redistricting and nonstop power grabs, efforts to change who counts in our democracy are happening now! 

Look, we’re no strangers to attacks on the census. The first Trump administration tried to violate the Constitution to undercount communities of color in 2020, which would have been devastating for equal representation.

Our movement fought back hard. And we shut it down. But all signs point to the fact that anti-democracy extremists are ready to try again for 2030.

So I need to ask: As we keep up our multi-pronged fight for a truly representative democracy, will you power this grassroots team with a donation of any amount?

The administration and their anti-democracy allies are trying to warp and weaponize the census process in several ways:

• Adding an unnecessary and suppressive citizenship question to a field test for the 2030 Census
• Filing lawsuits to try to prevent all residents from being counted, even though the Constitution explicitly says everyone must be counted
• Disbanding advisory commissions — groups of experts that had ensured the census was conducted based on the best research
• Proposing new state-level counts that would exclude non-citizens

The overall goal is clear:

They want to decide who counts, and who doesn’t.

The Constitution is clear: That's not their call. 

Redistricting Action and our affiliates refuse to be caught off guard as anti-democracy forces already work to manipulate the census behind closed doors.

We're preparing now for the long haul. We defeated them before. With your support, we'll do it again.
