Tell Congress: Stop Trump’s $1.8 BILLION insurrection slush fund!

Lawmakers speaking out is a good start, but it’s not enough so long as the fund is intact.

Win Without War

Pamela: You’ve likely seen the uproar over Trump’s Justice Department-created $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund that could send taxpayer money to January 6 insurrectionists, amongst other MAGA loyalists and political allies.

Trump’s slush fund is as corrupt and lawless as it gets — and even his allies in Congress are pushing back.

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called it “utterly stupid, morally wrong.” Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) added, “I don’t like the fund at all.” Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) referred to it as a “payout pot for punks.”[1] Things got so contentious that Senate Republicans were forced to abandon votes on an unrelated bill to fund ICE in advance of the Memorial Day recess.

It’s a good start, but it’ll be meaningless if this fund is left intact. Fortunately, right now there are multiple ways to pull it apart, from Rep. Jamie Raskin’s just-introduced No Taxpayer-Funded Settlement Slush Funds Act (H.R. 8914) to amendments in the reconciliation bills. While the iron is hot, we need to strike and ensure these measures get the support they need in Congress to kill this corrupt scam for good — and that’s where you come in.

Sign here to tell your lawmakers: Stop Trump’s $1.8 BILLION insurrection slush fund now!

ACT NOW

Here’s how we got here, Pamela: First, Trump sued the IRS over the leak of his tax returns, then dropped the case and settled the lawsuit in exchange for a taxpayer-backed fund that would benefit the same political movement that attacked the Capitol on January 6.

The closer you look, the worse it gets. According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), the settlement also blocks the IRS from auditing or pursuing charges tied to Trump’s tax returns, including those of his family and his businesses — forever. It’s corruption, two ways: A slush fund for his allies and a scheme to avoid investigation or accountability.

Trump has weaponized the DOJ for his MAGA allies and against his political foes before. The Department paid out $1.25 million settlements each to disgraced former national security advisor Michael Flynn and a Trump campaign adviser investigated over ties to the Russian government during the 2016 election.

This slush fund could supercharge all that — potentially paying out hundreds of lawsuits against the DOJ from January 6 insurrectionists, including Proud Boys convicted of assaulting police officers like leader Enrique Tarrio.

“Every part of this farce is an affront to the Constitution. It usurps both the exclusive power of Congress to legislate programs and spend money and the power of the courts to decide specific cases and controversies,” Rep. Raskin wrote. “It is, quite simply, a scam.”[2]

With outrage crossing partisan divides in Congress, now is the moment to go further and push lawmakers to act. A flood of messages from constituents like you can help get our demands across the finish line.

Tell Congress: No taxpayer-funded payouts for insurrectionists! Stop Trump’s corrupt $1.8 billion slush fund.
