Pamela —
Yesterday’s ruling is devastating and outrageous.
It doesn’t just strike down Louisiana’s fair map and leave Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act virtually useless. This decision also opens the floodgates for anti-democracy extremists to target the voting power of Black and brown voters, leaving them with little to no legal recourse.
Here’s a quote from Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan’s dissenting opinion that frames just how destructive this will be for voters of color:
“The Callais requirements have thus laid the groundwork for the largest reduction in minority representation since the era following Reconstruction.”
The Supreme Court has put democracy itself in crisis. It’s up to all of us to fight back to defend it. It’s up to YOU, Pamela.

Look: The road ahead will be tough. It will be exhausting at times. But the only way we can create a truly representative democracy is by working together so every eligible voter can make their voices heard.
