If you’re outraged by the Court’s ruling

We’re not going quietly

Pamela,

The Supreme Court’s far right majority has chosen to drag America back to Jim Crow.

But we’re not going quietly.

And there is still another path forward.

Your support today can help protect fair representation, fair maps, and fair elections despite the devastating new ruling in Louisiana v. Callais. Please rush a donation before tonight’s midnight monthly grassroots fundraising deadline as we work to defend our democracy.

Here’s what the Court has done, and how it opens the door to rigged maps and one-party rule:

  • Dismantled the Voting Rights Act’s key safeguard against racially discriminatory voting maps — reducing Section 2 to a shell of itself
  • Given politicians a green light to draw new maps where Black and brown voters can no longer elect their preferred candidates
  • Set the stage for potentially creating 19 more Republican U.S. House seats and eliminating 191 state legislative seats, the vast majority held by Black elected officials

Take it from dissenting Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, who explained how now, “a State can, without legal consequence, systematically dilute minority citizens’ voting power.”

Justice Kagan called the ruling the “latest chapter in the majority’s now-completed demolition of the Voting Rights Act” — a law that “was born of the literal blood of Union soldiers and civil rights marchers”, “bringing this Nation closer to fulfilling the ideals of democracy and racial equality.”

But here is how the pro-democracy movement is fighting back:

  • Organizing and pushing state and federal lawmakers to protect fair representation, ensure equal access to the ballot box, and reform the extremist Court
  • Pushing blue states to counter discriminatory redistricting by redrawing their maps
  • Building mass resistance now and mass turnout in November’s midterm elections
  • Ensuring that discriminatory maps will be challenged

We will keep fighting until every one of us has an equal voice in our democracy — because we refuse to accept a future where politicians choose their voters instead of voters choosing them.

If you’re outraged about this ruling, and if you’re able to help fight back with a donation today, chip in to support the fight for free and fair elections.
