When it was safe for Ombeni to return to her village, the conditions were much worse. Hunger had deepened. Violence prevented farmers from growing crops, and children went days without food.
Eventually, Ombeni’s second daughter, 3-year-old Lucienne, became severely malnourished. Her small body weakened and sores began to form. After everything she’d done to protect her children from violence, Ombeni feared the worst again — losing her daughter to hunger.
Then relief came. Ombeni brought Lucienne to a Save the Children health center where our teams provided free medical care, including therapeutic food, medicine and regular follow-ups.
