Democrats need to flip four Senate seats to take back the majority in 2026. And I'm increasingly convinced that Texas is one of them.
Last night, James Talarico won Texas' Democratic Primary – and he's entering the general election in a dead heat.
James is a former middle school teacher, seminarian, and eighth-generation Texan who flipped a Trump district in his very first race for the Texas State House. And here's the good news: he's already statistically tied against either Republican opponent before a single general election dollar has been spent.
But you know as well as I do that Texas isn't a guaranteed win for Democrats, not by a long shot. That's why I'm asking you to split $20 with James Talarico's campaign to start his general election efforts off on the best possible footing. James knows what it takes to build a coalition that criss-crosses background and party lines. His desire to reach every voter, not just Democrats, is part of the reason why he won. That's exactly the kind of candidate who can flip Texas blue. And winning in Texas would give us a clear shot at retaking the Senate.
On the other side? Republicans are already tearing each other apart.
Ken Paxton, who was impeached by a bipartisan majority in the Texas State House, is locked in a brutal runoff against Sen. John Cornyn. Cornyn and his super PAC allies burned through at least $69 million and barely limped into the runoff. His own party has pledged to make Paxton "unelectable."
Whoever survives the GOP's runoff effort will be damaged and defined by months of attacks from within their own party.
James will be ready. But only if we help him build the infrastructure now, while Republicans are throwing millions of dollars at attack ads and smear campaigns against each other.
This week's long window before Republicans even have a nominee is precious. It's time to hire organizers, expand voter contact, and make sure James has everything he needs to fight back against Trump's MAGA millions he'll surely invest to hold onto this seat.
