Re: ICE, the TSA, and the midterms:

We must be ready to ensure access to the ballot box

Pamela, our co-founder Stacey Abrams sent this team an important message over the weekend.

It's about how Trump's deployment of ICE agents to airports could be a "test run" for ICE intimidation at polling places this November.

No matter what, we must be ready to ensure access to the ballot box. Stacey is asking activists to support our pro-voter team at Fair Fight with a donation before tonight's end-of-quarter deadline. Will you rush a contribution of $30 or any amount?

In solidarity,

The Fair Fight Team

Pamela,

After the 2026 elections are over, we might be able to look back on this past week as a glaring warning of what was to come.

In what Donald Trump's former Chief Strategist Steve Bannon suggests could be a "test run" for the midterms, Trump has deployed ICE agents to airports — where his refusal to fund the TSA has led to severe screening delays, with lines stretching out the door.

Bannon already said "we're gonna have ICE surround the polls come November." Now we see Trump using this paramilitary force in the middle of his funding standoff with Democrats in Congress, who insist upon basic accountability measures for ICE agents.

Of course, ICE doesn't have any business in monitoring polling places. And the federal government does not have the authority to manage elections.

But Trump has made no secret of his desire for Republicans to "take over" the voting process. And even the threat of sending ICE agents to the polls — who could intimidate voters into staying home, or pluck people out of line for harassment based on the color of their skin — could amount to meaningful interference in our elections.

But we are not powerless in this moment. We can defend the freedom to vote by supporting organizations on the ground that empower voters to make their voices heard — organizations like Fair Fight. Can you rush a donation of $30 or any amount today to help Fair Fight protect American democracy?

The team at Fair Fight works to prevent voter suppression, make sure people have the information they need to cast their ballots, and elect Democracy Champions who use their power to protect, not restrict, the freedom to vote.

Some politicians seek to shrink the electorate, or prevent people they see as "undesirable" from casting their ballots.

That's because those so-called leaders do not believe they can compete on a level playing field. They don't intend to earn the support of the American people. Instead, they aim to inflict their extreme agenda upon a population that is not free to hold them accountable.

The right to access the ballot box is the ultimate failsafe in our democracy. It's our best defense against would-be autocrats. It's how we make sure our leaders are actually working to meet our needs. And we must do all we can to protect this sacred freedom.

Please make a contribution if you can to help uphold free and fair elections in America — and help stop the rise of autocracy.

Thank you,

Stacey Abrams
