Pamela,
President Trump's recent call to "nationalize the vote" raises major alarms — for so, so many reasons.
Let's start with the fact that the Constitution isn't subtle about putting elections in the hands of states, not the federal government. The Elections Clause grants states the authority to conduct federal elections, with the condition that Congress can set guidelines for states to follow.
The president, in fact, should play no role in elections. His desire to do this stems solely from his desire to control the democratic mechanisms of power at the expense of the people.
Any effort to nationalize or take over our elections will be both unconstitutional and flat out wrong — and that's before you get into what these politicians want to do with that power. Let's be clear — this talk of nationalizing elections is an open threat to democracy, starting with the so-called "SAVE America' Act," which would make voting even harder for millions of Americans. And these threats require a robust grassroots response.

Anti-democracy extremists are stopping at nothing to force through efforts to manipulate the maps and silence voters. They've proposed every obstacle to voting they can, including:
- Banning or strongly restricting mail-in voting
- Demanding proof of citizenship just to register to vote, with documents not accessible to millions of Americans
- Unnecessarily purging voters from the rolls at taxpayer expense
- Sharing private individual voter data with the federal government
They are doing this because they believe it gives them their best and only shot at winning elections.
And they think that they can get away with it…
Thank you for protecting the voices of voters,
