Pamela,
On Monday, the New York State Senate and Assembly supported advocates' demands for $175M in investments in life-saving legal defense programs for immigrants in their "one-house" budget proposals.
If enacted in the final New York State budget, the allocation would keep families united, support a strong economy and stable communities, and safeguard due process. |
At a moment when immigrant families across New York continue to face violence and lawless federal attacks, Vera and our partners in the CARE for Immigrant Families Coalition commend the legislature for taking bold action. We look forward to working with them and the governor to ensure New York enacts this nation-leading investment and passes the Access to Representation Act and the BUILD Act so that every New Yorker at risk of deportation has access to the legal support they need. This is a critical step, but our work is far from done. Together, we will keep fighting to protect our communities and due process.
