The Reporting the War Machine Can't ControlThe mainstream media is doing what it always does in wartime: manufacturing consent, sanitizing atrocities and platforming war criminalsRight now, the United States and Israel are continuing their bombardment of Iran. As the confirmed death toll climbs past 1,330 and hospitals, schools, and residential neighborhoods are hit daily, the media apparatus that sold you the Iraq war and denied Israel’s genocidal assault on Palestinians for the last two years is now running the same playbook. The Atlantic is laundering Netanyahu’s reputation as a “conflict-averse” leader while he tells the world this war lets him do what he’s “yearned for” for 40 years. Bari Weiss is tweeting fire emojis at pro-war clips, falsely suggesting Iran has nuclear weapons, and devoting journalistic resources to tracking the Instagram likes of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife. CNN is giving unchallenged airtime to ICC-indicted Israeli officials claiming American soldiers have an “obligation” to die for Israel. And that’s before the cable news network is taken over by Paramount, the Weiss operation run by the nepo-son of Larry Ellison, the single largest donor to Friends of the IDF. The BBC, meanwhile, leads with nine dead in Israel while relegating some 180 children killed by the U.S. in a girls’ school in Minab to a footnote. This is what the legacy media machine looks like in wartime. It has always looked like this. And it is exactly why we launched Drop Site less than two years ago. We can only continue to grow our impact and amplify Drop Site’s work if readers like you decide that our journalism is worth funding. Every dollar of your tax-deductible support goes directly into our reporting. It directly funds our reporters, researchers, translators, and the journalism the establishment media has abandoned. Will you help us fight back against the war machine’s narrative? The Difference Is the ReportingWhile Weiss and CBS were manufacturing consent for this war, Drop Site has had reporters on the ground reporting the facts. In just the last week:
This is the journalism your support directly funds. Not journalism that outsources its editorial judgment to think tanks or runs stories by their corporate overlords. Journalism from correspondents on-the-ground—and reporters with real sources. We answer to our readers and no one else. This Is What Independence Looks LikeWhere else are you getting deep investigations into war crimes documented in real time? Where else are you getting on-the-ground reporting that centers the voices of families, survivors, and communities that Western media treats as background noise? Where else are you hearing “the other side” and being presented with fair and accurate reporting on Iran’s perspective — featuring interviews the U.S. government doesn’t want you to hear? Not from outlets telling you war is peace. Not from a network whose editor-in-chief got the job because of her open and shameless support for Israel’s genocide. Not from outlets rewriting the record of a war criminal under indictment at The Hague. Not from cable news handing the microphone to the same people who lied America into Iraq. Drop Site’s reporting recently reached over 22 million monthly views. In less than two years, our journalism has become the tip of the spear for independent media. Our reporting is setting the conversation, being cited and shared by outlets and journalists around the world. We did this reader-funded. No corporate owners. No billionaire backers. We answer to no one but you. Covering a war costs real money. Reporters on the ground. Translators. Sources. Verification. We refuse to put our journalism behind a paywall, which means we depend entirely on readers like you to keep this operation running. A tax-deductible donation of any size makes a direct, tangible difference. It keeps a reporter deployed. It funds a translator who makes an interview possible. It pays for the kind of journalism the mainstream media has abandoned. And if you’re in a position to make a monthly recurring gift, that sustained support is what allows us to keep reporters in the field and say yes to the next story before we know how we’ll pay for it. Monthly donors are the backbone of this operation. The mainstream media is doing what it always does in wartime: manufacturing consent, sanitizing atrocities, platforming war criminals, and telling you to trust the same people who lied us into every war before this one. We refuse. Will you stand with us? Thank you for making this work possible, Jeremy, Ryan and the Drop Site team Your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Every dollar goes directly into our journalism — into reporters, translators, and the infrastructure that makes independent war reporting possible. |
