Pamela ― is clean water good or bad?
The Trump administration is currently seeking public comments on whether there's anything bad about polluted water. Seriously.
Trump's EPA is targeting Section 401 of the Clean Water Act, which has provided critical tools to protect our waterways from pollution. And now, the Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to significantly limit these protections.
The EPA plans to calculate the monetary cost to industry when setting pollution limits―additional expenses that keep toxic waste out of our rivers―but not the monetary value of saving human lives.
There's time to tell the EPA during the public comment period to protect our air and water.
If the EPA gets their way, we're going to see deregulation on a level we've never seen before. Water won't be safe to drink, air won't be safe to breathe and in turn, corporations will be the ones laughing to the bank while people like you and me will suffer.
If this rule is enacted, it would be apparently clear that the government cares about corporations and not us. Corporations will have more rights and privileges than we do. And communities may now have limited ability to protect their precious water resources from pollution.
The EPA offers a public comment period through February 17, so there is still time to tell them to protect clean water from corporate greed.
Thank you,
Mike Phelan
