Pamela, yesterday, Meta pulled down the No Kings Coalition’s Instagram account.
While millions across the country rallied for early voting, Meta froze and removed the coalition’s main Instagram account for roughly 90 minutes without any explanation or response.
And even after the account was restored and an apology was issued, administrators were still without access for four hours. The result: Millions who showed up for their early voting rally lost their microphone. [1]
Meta silenced a nationwide protest, and regardless of the reason, it can’t happen again.

Pamela, the loss of a major communications platform during the peak of an event is concerning.
We demand that social platforms that control our modern public square protect civic participation, not silence it.
And while there is no evidence that the temporary suspension was politically motivated, Meta has yet to release a full explanation or plans to prevent similar incidents in the future. [2]
With just a few weeks until the midterm elections, we need to show these platforms that voters refuse to play their games.
