Dear Pamela,
Two dangerous power grabs are advancing in Florida this week. The Outlawing Activism bill (HB 1471) is being heard on the House floor on Tuesday, and the Florida version of the SAVE Act (SB 1334/HB 991) could be heard on the Senate floor as early as Wednesday.
We need you to make 2 phone calls today:
Call your Florida House Rep: Tell them to vote NO on HB 1471.
Call your Florida Senator: Tell them to vote NO on SB 1334 & HB 991.
Your call does not have to be long. It is enough to say: "My name is [your name], I am a constituent from [your town], and I am asking you to vote NO on [bill number]." If no one picks up, just leave a voice message.
Outlawing Activism (HB 1471): This bill will place extraordinary power in the hands of the Governor and his appointees to declare organizations "domestic terrorists" through a secretive, discretionary process. Acts of nonviolent civil disobedience like those we saw during the Civil Rights Movement and those we are seeing today in Minneapolis could be outlawed.
The Florida SAVE Act (SB 1334/HB 991): This bill has already passed the Florida House and is dangerously close to becoming law. If it passes, thousands of U.S. Citizens in Florida will be purged from the voter rolls and prevented from registering -- especially seniors, students, Black voters, Latino voters, naturalized citizens, and people with disabilities.
These bills present a grave threat to our ability to make our voices heard, and we must urgently push back on both of them.

You calls make a difference. Representatives know which bills people are calling about, and which bills they aren't calling about. When we don't call, it sends a message that we are OK with what they are doing. We need to tell our representatives that we are NOT OK with being silenced.
Thank you for taking action today, and for all you do!
In common cause,
Amy Keith, Executive Director
