| Petition to Congress: We urge you to investigate and shut down vile, inhumane immigrant detention centers and stop DHS from building more prisons. We urge you specifically to shut down Camp East Montana and Alligator Alcatraz immediately. |
Under Trump last year, 32 people died in DHS custody, the most in over two decades. Now, ICE is topping that horrifying record pace, with at least 11 people dead in ICE custody just ten weeks into 2026.
The Associated Press released shocking details of abuse and suffering at ICE's largest prison, Camp East Montana: overcrowding, medical neglect, malnutrition, emotional distress, a measles outbreak, thousands detained in tents, and 911 calls from inside the prison from people who've been beaten, pregnant women in pain, and some reporting self-harm.
"Camp East Montana must be shut down," said U.S. Representative Veronica Escobar — who represents El Paso, where the prison is located — along with other House Democrats including Reps. Pramila Jayapal and Delia Ramirez. Congress must immediately close all abusive ICE prisons in America.

"Every day felt like a week. Every week felt like a month. Every month felt like a year," said one man who was detained at the Texas ICE prison before his deportation to the Netherlands. "Camp East Montana was 1,000% worse than a prison." He said that guards had a betting pool on which person in the prison would die by suicide next — showing the vile brutality of Trump's DHS.
Three people who were held at Camp East Montana died within 44 days between December and January.
The ICE prison population continues to grow as DHS races to stand up new mega warehouse prisons that could double ICE detention capacity. A record 68,000+ people are currently in ICE detention centers.
Congress must take urgent action to save the tens of thousands suffering in horrific, abusive ICE prisons across the country.
Sign the petition: Investigate and shut down ICE's torture prisons NOW.
